Thembi Mthembu: Jackson Mthembu’s Wife, Passes Away; Cause of Death Is Unknown

Thembi's death came not too long after the death of her husband, Jackson. Jackson, the anti-apartheid activist and Minister in the Presidency, died of COVID-19 on 21 January 2021.

According to the family of Jackson Mthembu, the late Minister in the Presidency, his widow, Thembi, passed away at a Pretoria hospital on Thursday morning.

KAMPALA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Thembi Mthembu, the widow of the late Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu, passed away on Thursday morning at a Pretoria hospital after a short illness.

  • Her husband Jackson passed away after contracting COVID-19 early last year. Her family confirms that she has been ill for some time.
  • They had six children and unfortunately lost their 25-year-old daughter to suicide on March 20, 2019. 
  • Khwezi Mthembu committed suicide at her family’s Pelican parliamentary village home in Cape Town.

Mthembu’s cousin, Artwel Mthembu: “She was not well for the last couple of weeks. She lost her life in hospital. To open up the wounds, we lost Jackson last year.”

Thembi’s death comes a little over a year after the death of her husband.

Jackson Mthembu, an anti-apartheid activist and Minister in the Presidency, died on January 21, 2021, after suffering from a contagious disease (COVID-19).

They had six children and sadly lost their 25-year-old daughter to suicide on 20 March 2019. Khwezi Mthembu committed suicide at their family home in Pelican parliamentary village, Cape Town.

The news of the deceased Chief Whip’s wife disappointed South Africans and condolences were sent to her family shortly after her death was announced. 

According to current information, no cause of death is known for Thembi Mthembu.
