Soroti, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Soroti Chief Magistrate Margaret Aanyu has sadly passed away. She was rushed to Kampala Hospital after collapsing at her home on Sunday afternoon, October 15. Sheila Wamboga, the Judiciary Communication Specialist, confirmed her death, describing it as a short illness.

The Judiciary officially announced her passing, stating, “This to announce the death of HW Aanyu Margaret Chief Magistrate Soroti which has occurred this morning at Kampala hospital. Funeral arrangements to be announced later. May Her Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.”

Details of Aanyu’s Condition

Justice Henry Peter Adonyo, the resident Judge of Soroti High Court, who worked closely with Aanyu, recalled their last interaction on Thursday when she seemed in good health.

However, her health took a sudden downturn after a meeting, and she collapsed at home the following evening. Her blood pressure spiked, and attempts to communicate with her failed. Tragically, when her door was opened, she was found on the floor, unresponsive, with her eyes wide open.

She was rushed to a private hospital and then into an ICU before being transported to Kampala. While preparations were underway to refer her for specialized treatment in Nairobi, Kenya, she suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away.

Remembering Aanyu

Justice Adonyo spoke highly of Aanyu, describing her as hard-working, pro-people, and respectful. His recollection of her dedication extended beyond Soroti to his time as Chief Registrar when he facilitated her transfer to Nakawa court, where she often worked until 9 p.m.
