Uganda Airlines has entered into an interline partnership with Air India, giving travelers seamless access between Africa, the Indian subcontinent and a range of international hubs.
The agreement, effective from August 25, allows passengers to book a single ticket that combines flights from both airlines. This means travelers flying from Entebbe International Airport can now connect through Air India’s hub in Mumbai to more than 25 destinations across India, including Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata, as well as global cities such as London, Bangkok and Singapore.
The partnership also works in reverse, opening Uganda to Air India’s vast customer base. Passengers from India and other parts of Asia can travel via Mumbai or Dubai and continue onward to Entebbe on Uganda Airlines. From there, they can connect to destinations across Africa such as South Africa, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer Jenifer Bamuturaki described the agreement as a major milestone.
“This interline agreement is a significant step in our strategy to connect Uganda to Africa and beyond,” she said.
A single-ticket system reduces the need for multiple bookings, simplifies baggage transfers and shortens layover times, making long-haul journeys smoother. Aviation analysts say such partnerships not only benefit passengers but also help airlines grow market share and strengthen regional links.
For Uganda, often referred to as the “Pearl of Africa,” the deal enhances opportunities to attract tourism and business investment while giving Ugandan travelers easier access to Asia’s fast-growing markets.
