Lusaka, Zambia | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Ugandan filmmaker Mathew Nabwiso clinched the Best Movie Director award at the 2023 Zikomo Awards, an international ceremony recognizing excellence across industries. The event, held in Lusaka, Zambia, acknowledged individuals and organizations in the Arts and Entrepreneurship categories, including notable humanitarian contributions.

Mathew and Eleanor Nabwiso of Nabwiso Films attended the ceremony, with Mathew securing the top spot in the Best Movie Director category, triumphing over renowned African directors. Eleanor expressed her happiness for the well-deserved recognition.

Other Ugandan nominees included Sanyu for TV series of the year, and filmmakers Henry Nathan Katongole and Tracy Kababiito representing Uganda in the best actor and actress categories, respectively. Notable Ugandan figures like Barbie Kyagulanyi, Ziza Bafana, Irene Namatovu, Karole Kasita, Abbas Kaijuka, Brian Ahumuza, Jimmy Spire Ssentongo, and Oscar Kampala were well-represented across various art forms at the awards.
