Uganda’s music scene just had a huge moment—songwriter and singer Rulz is now a Grammy winner! Last night, at the 2025 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, Alkebulan II by Matt B took home the Best Global Music Album award, bringing well-deserved recognition to Ugandan songwriters Rulz and Zigi Nana, who played a part in the project.
Rulz couldn’t hide his excitement, jumping on X to celebrate: “GRAMMY WINNING SONGWRITER #GRAMMYs. Allah is so good to me!!!!!”
Unfortunately, he and Zigi Nana missed the ceremony due to visa delays. But that didn’t dampen the excitement. “We couldn’t attend the Grammys in time because our visas arrived late. But regardlesssssss!!!! We bringing it home with usssss #GRAMMYs,” he wrote.
Matt B’s Alkebulan II beat out some tough competition, including Paisajes by Ciro Hurtado, HEIS by Rema, Historias De Un Flamenco by Antonio Rey, and Born in the Wild by Tems.
