Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — World Netball (WN) President Liz Nicholl has warned the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) to resolve its governance issues promptly or face a potential ban from the sport. UNF has been instructed to address concerns related to its governance and management, including the exclusive right to govern netball in the country, as required by World Netball’s articles of association. Failure to do so could result in the suspension of UNF’s membership in World Netball.

In response to these governance issues, World Netball has decided to suspend certain UNF executive members, including Sarah Babirye, Richard Ojuku, Harriet Apolot, Ronald Mudhasi, Bashir Kwerebera, Rosette Kaala, Robert Kibira, Denis Mpoza, and Hannifa Kabacwa. Additionally, the officials have been requested to step down immediately, without compensation, and a normalization committee is to be established to guide UNF in addressing these concerns and ensuring that fair and democratic elections take place.

UNF’s acting president, Brig. Flavia Byekwaso, confirmed the formation of a normalization committee to oversee the process of resolving the governance issues. The committee will be composed of new individuals who were not part of the previous executive, with oversight from World Netball.

The National Council of Sports will not be directly involved in the committee’s selection but will offer support during the process. Supporters of the sport have expressed relief at these developments.
