KAMPALA | NOW THEN DIGITAL  — The Afropop singer KiDi won Artist of the Year at the 2022 3Music Awards for a second straight year. See the complete list of winners and nominees in major categories.

The ‘Touch It’ hitmaker won five other awards during the 3Music Award 2022 show that took place at the Grand Arena in Ghana at the weekend, making him the biggest winner of the event.

Fast-rising Black Sherif, whose name also dominated the news surrounding the awards and was widely expected to take home the top prize, managed to win four awards.

Technical problems delayed the start of the awards ceremony for several hours on Sunday 27 March. Nevertheless, a powerful opening performance, in which Black Sherif invoked fire and rain, seemed to placate patrons who had been muttering their frustration for several hours.

The show started with a live rendition of Black Sherif’s unreleased song ‘Kweku the Traveller’, which is set for release next month, and culminated with a Burna Boy remix of ‘Second Sermon’.

In the past year alone, KiDi and Black Sherif have been behind some of Ghana’s most renowned musical moments. KiDi’s hit single, ‘Touch It,’ was recently updated with a verse by US rapper Tyga, which has been streamed more than 36 million times on Spotify.
