Tanzania’s Abigail Chams is Apple Music’s new Up Next Artist in East Africa

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Apple Music has announced that Afro-pop artist Abigail Chams, known as Abigail Chamungwana, is the latest talent to join its Up Next artist development program in East Africa.

Expressing her excitement, Abigail said, “I am excited and honoured to be the focus artist on Up Next East Africa. I am thrilled for this opportunity to celebrate East African music and I represent Bongo Flava on my debut EP 5.”

Abigail, who hails from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, has a rich musical background. She is a multilingual singer, performing in Swahili, French, and English, and is also a proficient multi-instrumentalist, playing the violin, piano, guitar, flute, and drums.

Her collaboration with Tanzanian artists like Rayvanny and Harmonize has expanded her fanbase within Tanzania. Abigail has also made significant appearances, including performing the national anthem at major football games and being featured on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Her debut Afro-pop EP ‘5,’ available on Apple Music, explores various facets of 21st-century romance and combines elements of pop, amapiano, and bongo flava to create a diverse Afro-fusion collection that showcases her versatility.

The Up Next program has featured Grammy-nominated artists like Billie Eilish, Burna Boy, and Megan Thee Stallion, among others, demonstrating its commitment to promoting emerging talents across diverse music genres.
