Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Lieutenant Colonel Peter Seku Kidemuka, the project engineer for the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) Engineers Brigade, has reported that the renovation of Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, is now 72% complete. The renovation project commenced in February 2022, and the UPDF is confident that it will be finished by November 30, 2023.
Kidemuka outlined the project’s phases, which included securing the 128-acre land by evicting encroachers and fencing the area during phase one. Phase two focused on upgrading and renovating the stadium to meet international standards, involving mechanical, electrical, and civil works both inside and around the stadium.
According to UPDF Deputy Spokesperson Colonel Deo Akiiki, the current phase includes tasks like planting grass on the main playfield and training section, installing a public address system and chairs, and setting up electrical and plumbing equipment. The stadium is anticipated to host its first international match in March 2024.
