The much-anticipated 2023 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) is set to hold its ninth edition on May 20th in Lagos, Nigeria.
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — The ninth edition of the prestigious 2023 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) is set to take place on May 20th in Lagos, Nigeria, with the aim of recognizing outstanding and innovative contributions within the entertainment industry in Africa.
MultiChoice, the organizers of the event, recently revealed the list of nominees for this year’s ceremony, featuring several personalities from across the continent who have made groundbreaking contributions in their respective fields.
Kenyan film industry dominates with 17 nominations
This year, the Kenyan film industry celebrates its highest number of nominations ever, with a total of 17 nominations across various categories. Among the notable nominees are Daniel Manege, Wilson Nkya, Tobi Bakare, Chinedu Ikedieze, Bimbo Ademoye, and Nkem Owoh.
Performers and behind-the-scenes members get recognized
Nominees for the different categories include performers and behind-the-scenes members, with films made between December 1, 2021, and January 31, 2023, being considered for nominations.
Fourteen categories will be decided through public voting, while the remaining 21 categories will be decided by a panel of judges led by veteran producer and film director Femi Odugbemi.
Winners to be announced at the grand gala event
The nominees were selected across various themes and film art forms, with the winners to be announced at the grand gala event.
The voting portal is still open for fans and movie enthusiasts to vote for their favorite nominees on the official AMVCA website, which will close on May 11. The main award ceremony will be televised live across all Africa Magic channels.
