Alex Ndawula, Former Sanyu FM and Capital FM Presenter, Has Died at Age 59

Former Ugandan radio presenter and DJ Alex Ndawula has died at the age of 59. Here's what we know about him - his biography, his age, his news, his family, and his breakup with Drucilla Ndawula.

Patricia Osman, the producer for the Capital Gang on Capital FM, where the deceased worked before retiring, says Alex Ndawula died in the St. Francis Hospital Nsambya where he had been admitted with a sickness.

KAMPALA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Alex Ndawula, who was known for his ‘Dance Force’ and ‘Sundowner’ shows in Uganda, died at the age of 59 on Monday, June 06, 2022. Remembering Alex, here is what we know about his family, biography, sickness, and how he ended his marriage with Drucilla Ndawula.

  • Born in 1963 in New York, Alex Ndawula moved to Uganda when he was eight years old when his father died.
  • He told Daily Monitor that he is passionate about radio presenting and deejaying and that this has defined his future.
  • In the 1990s and 2000s, Ndawula was a leading voice on Capital FM and Sanyu FM in Uganda.
  • In 2014, Alex and his wife Drucilla Ndawula separated, and little is known about her current whereabouts.

The late Alex Ndawula who graced the airwaves of private FM stations in Uganda, beginning with Sanyu FM before moving to Capital FM was one of the stars of the early 1990’s liberalization and the first mass market in Uganda that sprang up.

Alex Ndawula died at the age of 59 on Monday evening in Kampala.

A producer for Capital FM where Ndawula worked for years prior to his death, Patricia Osman, has confirmed that Alex Ndawula died at the St. Francis Hospital Nsambya where he had been admitted due to illness.

By the time of this writing, details about the nature of his illness and arrangements for burial are still unknown.

Who was Alex Ndawula?

Born in New York in the United States in 1963, Alex Ndawula moved to Uganda when he was just eight years old after the death of his father.

Ndawula attended St. Mary’s College Kisubi for a year, then went to Nairobi, then to Namasagali for his high school education, and finally to Nakawa Technical Institute where he studied Marketing.

He explained in a Daily Monitor interview that his hobbies revolved around radio presenting and deejaying, and he felt that this had influenced the path he would take in the future.

Until the year 2014, Alex was married to his wife Drucilla Ndawula who remained with him up until that year when the two decided to part ways.

It is unknown what happened to the former wife after that, and little is known about her whereabouts.

As a star on private FM stations in Uganda during the early 1990s and early 2000s with his breakfast shows on Capital FM and Sanyu FM, Ndawula was a name to reckon with during this period.

Together with Chris Ireland and DJ Chazzo, Ndawula was a part of the early days of FM radio in the country. Later, he presented the morning show at Kisementi-based Capital FM.

The late Alex Ndawula presented the dance show, ‘Dance Force’ and ‘Sundowner’, on the same station where he finished his career in 2017.

He retired from radio after more than 40 years.
