Legendary Congolese Singer Awilo Longomba to Perform with Afrigo Band at “Legends of Sound” Concert

The legendary Congolese singer Awilo Longomba will join forces with the renowned Afrigo Band for the “Legends of Sound” concert.

KAMPALA, UGANDA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — In a highly anticipated event that is set to make waves in the Ugandan music scene, the iconic Congolese singer Awilo Longomba will take the stage alongside the renowned Afrigo Band at the “Legends of Sound” concert.

This concert holds special significance as Afrigo Band celebrates 48 years since its inception in the entertainment industry.

The event is scheduled to take place on August 5, 2023, at the Sheraton Hotel and is organized by the Talent Africa group, promising an extraordinary experience that will go down in Ugandan music history.

Excitement Builds as Awilo Longomba Joins Forces with Afrigo Band

During a press conference held on Saturday, Awilo expressed his joy at collaborating with Afrigo Band, stating, “Afrigo band was and is still the best and biggest band in Uganda. The fusion of their kind of music they do makes me more attracted to them.”

Known for his chart-topping hits like “Gate le Coin,” “Kwanga Pamba,” and “Karolina,” Awilo Longomba last graced the Ugandan stage in 2019. However, this time, his return accompanied by Afrigo Band is expected to create an unforgettable musical experience.

Intensive Rehearsals and Fusion of Musical Styles

Longomba, currently in the country for intensive rehearsal sessions with Afrigo Band, expressed his commitment to seamlessly blend their distinct musical styles for this iconic live concert.

He emphasized, “The uniqueness of Legends of Sound concert is that I won’t fly in my band, but collaborate with Afrigo my entire performance.”

Moses Matovu of Afrigo Band highlighted the significance of this concert, as the band commemorates its 48-year journey since its establishment in 1975. Matovu expressed confidence in working with Talent Africa to make this anniversary celebration truly remarkable.

He stated, “The Afrigo Band story is a bit long, but briefly, we have to celebrate this milestone.”

An Unforgettable Celebration of African Music

The concert promises an exceptional experience for music enthusiasts, with electrifying performances on stage and unique offstage experiences. The pioneers of Ugandan music, Afrigo Band, will blend their iconic sound with the infectious energy of Awilo Longomba, creating an extraordinary celebration of African music.

The night will be filled with a mix of Afro beats, Rumba, Jazz, Lingala, and timeless classics, transporting revelers into a realm of electrifying rhythms, infectious beats, and soul-stirring melodies.

Talent Africa’s Role in Producing the Show

Ali Alibhai from Talent Africa expressed excitement about officially launching Legends of Sound and taking on the responsibility of managing and producing the show.

Alibhai stated, “We are excited to officially launch Legends of Sound, and we shall be producing the show. Talent Africa engaged with Awilo Longomba and Afrigo Band on how best we can do the show, and I am very delighted to be the one managing and producing it.”
