Here are a few things that you should know about the film. Let’s start with the cast. Is Lupita Nyong’o the right choice for the role? What about Danai Gurira? And what about Letitia Wright?
Ryan Coogler
The trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was revealed at Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. While the trailer was beautiful, it also showed a nation in mourning.
Ryan Coogler addressed the death of Chadwick Boseman, who starred as T’Challa and helped make the first Black Panther film a worldwide sensation.
The second installment of the Black Panther franchise is set for release in 2022, but the release date was pushed back four months.
Originally scheduled to hit theaters in July, Wakanda Forever is now set for February 17, 2023. During a recent break from filming, Marvel Studios had to reconfigure the shoot schedule.
The film will now be released as soon as November 11, 2022.
Lupita Nyong’o
After a successful critical and box office run, Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther has recently hit a speed bump.
Filming for the follow-up, Wakanda Forever was halted in January 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which the star had tested positive for.
This is not the first time the film has experienced a setback, as production was halted for weeks due to the affliction of Letitia Wright.
Marvel Studios confirmed that the film won’t be recast, but that a new actor will take the role of T’Challa. While the role is up for grabs, Lupita Nyong’o has high hopes for the sequel.
She has already been praised by Ryan for putting her name on the film. If the sequel does come to fruition, Nyong’o will return as Nakia, the stoic leader of the Dora Milaje.
Danai Gurira
Danai Gurira is an American actress and playwright. She is most famous for her role as Michonne in the hit television series The Walking Dead.
She has also played the role of Okoye in several Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero films, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Her bio describes her as “an accomplished actress with a background in dance, theater, and the arts.”
While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is not the final look at the fictional African nation, Marvel is already planning a spinoff series focusing on Okoye, the leader of the Dora Milaje.
It’s not clear when that will hit theaters, but the actress is expected to reprise her role. The spin-off will be produced by Coogler’s Proximity Media.
In the meantime, Marvel fans can wait for the upcoming film and watch it online.
Letitia Wright
Letitia Wright is a Guyanese-British actress who is well known for playing the role of Shuri in the critically acclaimed film Black Panther.
She began her career with small roles in TV shows, such as Top Boy, Coming Up, Chasing Shadows, Humans, and Doctor Who. In addition, Wright received a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2018 for her role in Black Mirror.
However, that was just the start of her problems. A stunt in August left her with a fractured shoulder.
The actress was forced to spend some time in London undergoing treatment, and the production of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was halted while Wright recuperated from her injuries.
In November, the cast and crew of the film continued working without her. Then, the production was suspended after Wright suffered a concussion during filming.
Daniel Kaluuya
During the early stages of the filming process, I was able to get an exclusive first look at Daniel Kaluuya’s role as W’Kabi in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Despite my excitement, I was hesitant to see the film until I got the chance to see how well the actor portrayed the character. In addition to the incredible casting, I also got a sneak peek at the movie’s plot.
It was also a disappointing setback for fans when Daniel Kaluuya revealed that he will not be returning to the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sequel.
However, this doesn’t mean he’ll never be back. The actor was originally set to play W’Kabi in the film, which will release later this summer.
But despite the controversy surrounding his future role, Kaluuya has remained silent in the aftermath of the news.
As Variety reports, Kaluuya could not appear in the sequel because the filming clashed with his next big-screen role in Jordan Peele’s Nope.
Michael B Jordan
Michael B Jordan will return to the big screen as the title character of the upcoming American superhero film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The film is based on the comic book character of the same name. Jordan will play the role of the fictional King T’Challa, a warrior from Wakanda in Africa.
The film has been in the works for quite some time now, but it’s finally coming to the big screen on November 11, 2022.
The Black Panther franchise is well-known for its mercenary Erik Killmonger, a villain who seeks to depose T’Challa’s government.
Fans were enthralled by Jordan’s portrayal of this character. Many fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of the mercenary since the last movie.
Now, Michael B Jordan has reportedly revealed that the character will play a new role in the sequel. It will premiere on November 11, 2022.
Wakanda Forever’s notable cast
Letitia Wright will play Shuri in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which will also feature Danai Gurira as Okoye, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, as well as Angela Bassett as Queen Mother Ramonda.
Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico) joins Coel as a first-time cast member, portraying the character Namor.
Ryan Coogler will direct the sequel to his 2018 film, having also co-written the script with Joe Robert Cole (Amber Lake).
