Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Stanley Sendegeya, the former Managing Director of Uganda Railways Corporation, finds himself behind bars at Luzira prison after allegedly fabricating academic credentials to secure his previous position.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit apprehended Sendegeya as he was en route to Nakasero Hospital, where he reportedly undergoes daily medical treatment for a stroke. His arrest unfolded, leading him to Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Siena Owomugisha on Wednesday.

Facing charges of forging a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, the 54-year-old Namugongo Janda resident in Wakiso district vehemently denied the accusations. Prosecutors assert that Sendegeya, with the intention to deceive, falsified a curriculum vitae, claiming to hold a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, which he did not possess.

Additionally, Sendegeya is accused of providing false information to Delloit Uganda Ltd, a recruitment firm located on Lumumba Avenue. The court heard that he misled the company during the hiring process.

In a bid for release on bail, Sendegeya, represented by his lawyer Benon Tusasirwe, argued that his medical condition requires specialized care not available in prison. The defense presented three sureties, comprising his wife, son, and mother-in-law. However, the court opted to defer its ruling on the bail application until November 27, 2023.
