Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Former UPDF soldier Kenneth Nkurunugi has been detained by the police for allegedly possessing counterfeit US Dollars worth $40,000. Nkurunugi, aged 36 and now a military trainer in Juba, South Sudan, was arrested at Namayiba Bus Terminal in Kampala on October 12, 2023, during a police operation.

This operation was initiated based on actionable intelligence suggesting that Nkurunugi was in possession of a box containing counterfeit US dollars. He claimed that the counterfeit currency was meant to be transported to Juba via Classic Bus, and he had been contacted by Musa Adam, a resident of Juba, to meet an unknown individual for this exchange. The exchange occurred near Total Katwe, where Nkurunugi received the box and handed it over to Classic Bus staff at Namayiba Bus Terminal. Later, he was called back to retrieve the package but found it had been left behind, leading to his arrest.

Police confirmed that the box contained counterfeit black dollars worth $40,000. The case is under active investigation, and further details will be provided as it progresses.
