Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Ugandan model Judith Heard, also an environmentalist, launched the “50 Million Trees for Africa” campaign through her foundation, Judith Heard Foundation (JHF). The initiative targets African youth, aiming to foster sustainable development and ecological awareness in schools.
At Kasangati High School in Gayaza, Judith planted signature trees, kick-starting the campaign. She engaged with students, highlighting the importance of conserving nature and addressing climate change challenges. Beyond education, her vision includes every child actively participating in preserving the environment, instilling responsibility and appreciation for nature.
She later visited the Kasangati Town Council community, meeting local leaders and monitoring previously planted trees. Judith’s passion is evident, and she calls for a collective effort to achieve a greener world by 2050, inviting partnerships with governments, international organizations, and civil society.
The JHF campaign focuses on cultivating environmentally conscious leaders through educational grassroots initiatives. Workshops in participating schools will educate students on trees’ role in combating climate change, integrating environmental sustainability into their learning experience. Tree planting events with local communities and technology integration for tracking tree growth form essential components of the campaign.
Judith Heard is set to be honored at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards in Los Angeles on March 6, 2024. The event, co-chaired by figures like Livia Firth, Cate Blanchett, and Zendaya, celebrates young leaders driving climate and social action. Judith’s contributions convey a powerful message of hope and empowerment as she steps into Hollywood’s GCFA Awards. The ceremony celebrates young leaders globally, uniting fashion and entertainment for positive transformation and championing cultural change.
