Singer, songwriter, actor, and humanitarian Maurice Kirya is set to make his long-awaited musical return on May 6 when he releases his new album, ‘The Road To Kirya,’ the title of which is fittingly named.
KAMPALA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Earlier this week, the Ugandan singer, songwriter, actor, and humanitarian, Maurice Kirya, announced the release date and title of his upcoming sixth studio album, titled ‘The Road To Kirya.’ The album is set for release on May 6.
While little has been revealed about ‘The Road To Kirya’ yet, Maurice Kirya discussed what the public can expect from his studio effort in a recent interview with MBU.
“a genre that few Africans have dared to explore.” he said of his new album.
‘The Road To Kirya’ release began in March after the singer dropped its first single, “Entebbe”. This is the first release from his highly anticipated sixth album.
‘Entebbe’ is a positive tune with an intense groove, cluster guitar chords played by Simone Cesarini so as to leave space for the bass played by Jens Dreijer as you hear signature vocal arrangements and horns from popular songs like ‘Busaabala’.
With a decade-long career in the music industry, Maurice Kirya is considered a household name in East Africa. His most recent albums include Beyond Myself, released in 2019, Free Dreams, released in 2017, Mwooyo, released in 2015, The Book of Kirya, released in 2012, and Misubbaawa, released in 2009.
Among his many achievements, Kirya has performed in over 35 countries and collaborated with artists such as American superstar NE-YO, German star Mark Forster, and American actor Jordin Sparks.
Maurice has also starred in Hollywood films including The Queen Of Katwe as ‘Theo’ (alongside Lupita Nyongo and David Oyelowo). He also appeared in The Last King of Scotland (uncredited) with Forest Whitaker, Kerry Washington and David Oyelowo.
Currently, Kirya is starring in the upcoming film “The Girl in the Yellow Jumper” directed by Loukman Ali.
