Entebbe, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Hakim Kirigwa assumes the role of deputy Resident District Commissioner for Entebbe, succeeding Jackline Kankunda. Kankunda recently relocated to Mbarara City following a directive from President Museveni, with Kirigwa appointed as her successor from Buikwe district.
The transition ceremony, overseen by Wakiso RDC Justine Mbabazi, acknowledged Kankunda’s commendable efforts in addressing the persistent challenge of land grabbing in Entebbe. Mbabazi clarified that the decision for the RDC transfer originated solely from the Office of the President.
During her handover, Kankunda expressed gratitude to the people of Entebbe for their cooperation over the past two years. Despite making strides against land grabbers, she highlighted the ongoing threat posed by land-related issues in the community.
Kankunda urged the new RDC to take a proactive stance against these challenges, describing them as “Mafias and land grabbers” disturbing the people of Entebbe.
In response, Kirigwa called on all stakeholders to contribute to the government’s transformative agenda by ensuring accountability for resources and prioritizing public service. He emphasized the pivotal responsibilities of RDCs, encompassing the monitoring of service provision, overseeing government projects, ensuring security, and executing tasks directed by the president, as outlined in the Constitution and additional guidelines from the Office of the President.
