Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — The shooting of Buganda Kingdom’s Ndiga clan head, Daniel Bbosa last month has led to murder charges against five individuals who have been remanded to Luzira Prison.

Noah Lujja, Harriet Nakiguli, Joseph Nakabale, Ezra Mayanja, and Milly Naluwenda appeared in court facing murder charges, but were not allowed to speak due to the severity of the offence, which falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate, Adam Byaruhanga, informed the accused that the court lacks jurisdiction and advised them to apply for bail in the high court. The case was adjourned to April 11 for mention.

Prosecution, led by Caroline Mpumwire, alleges that the group, along with others, caused the death of Daniel Bbosa on February 25, 2024, in Kikandwa, Lungujja, Rubaga Division in Kampala District.

Bbosa was killed by gunmen on a motorcycle near his residence in Lungujja, Rubaga Division. Preliminary investigations revealed a connection between Lujja Bbosa Tabula, who is currently on the run, and Milly Naluwenda, a clerk in Buganda Kingdom’s Tradition Court.

Residents, led by Abdul Katabaazi, pursued and apprehended the assailants, lynching one identified as Enock Sserunkuma. Lujja, the second suspect, was spared after being clobbered for information. Lujja, receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital, provided information leading to the arrest of six others, including Naluwenda.

There are suspicions that the motive behind Daniel Bbosa’s killing may be related to a cultural seat conflict dating back 487 years.
