On Tuesday, 24 May 2022, the nominations for Headies Award 2022 were announced. Wizkid’s “Essence” and Ayra Starr’s “Bloody Samaritan” each received multiple nominations.

KAMPALA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — There were many surprises in this year’s long-awaited list of nominees for the Headies Award 2022, including the multiple nominations for Wizkid’s “Essence” and Ayra Starr’s “Bloody Samaritan”.

  • In the long-anticipated list of nominees for the Headies Award 2022, Wizkid’s “Essence” and Ayra Starr’s “Bloody Samaritan” received multiple nods. 
  • Wizkid x Tems’ ‘Essence’ is nominated in these categories: Best Recording Of The Year, Best R&B single, Best Vocal Performance (Female), and Headies’ Viewer’s Choice, along with Song Of The Year.
  • Ayra Starr’s ‘Bloody Samaritan’ is in the running for Best Afrobeat, Single Of The Year, and Headies’ Viewers’ Choice at the 2022 Headies.

The song ‘Essence’ by Wizkid x Tems is nominated in several categories, including Best Recording Of The Year, Best R&B single, Best Vocal Performance (Female), Best Collaboration, Headies’ Viewers’ Choice, and Song Of The Year.

The song ‘Bloody Samaritan’ by Ayra Starr is competing for Best Afrobeats, Single Of The Year, and Headies’ Viewer’s Choice at the 2022 Headies Awards.

Uganda will be represented at the 2022 Headies awards by Eddy Kenzo, nominated in the ”Best East African Artiste Of The Year” category.

Kenzo will face stiff competition from fellow East African heavy-hitters like Diamond Platinumz, Harmonize, and Zuchu from Tanzania, as well as Rwanda’s Meddy and Nikita Kering from Kenya.

The 2022 Headies nominations were announced on their Instagram page ahead of the first award ceremony to be held in the United States of America on Sunday, 4 September.

Having been founded in 2006, the Headies Awards, formerly known as the Hip Hop World Awards, will hold their inaugural ceremony outside of Nigeria for the first time.

This year’s “Join the Movement” award ceremony will be held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Cumberland/Galleria, an edge community northwest of Atlanta, Georgia.
