Tragic Incident: Col (Rtd) Engola’s Death
Col (Rtd) Engola was tragically killed by his bodyguard, who then turned the gun on himself, in an incident that occurred last month in Kyanja, Kampala.
Samuel Engola Emerges Victorious in Party Primaries
During the party primaries held on Saturday, Samuel Engola secured 532 votes, surpassing Queen Dorothy Amolo, who received 322 votes. Eight other aspirants withdrew from the race to support the son of the deceased minister.
Party Leaders Urge Support for Engola
Following the election overseen by Dr. Tanga Odoi, the ruling party’s electoral commission chairman, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong called on all party members to rally behind Engola for the July 6 by-election.
Todwong emphasized that the elections were conducted fairly and urged unity among party members.
Village-to-Village Campaign Strategy
The NRM plans to implement a village-to-village campaign strategy to secure victory in the by-election. Todwong expressed the party’s determination to support Engola until the seat is retained.
Samuel Engola’s Pledge
In his acceptance speech, Samuel Engola assured party delegates and supporters that the victory in the by-election belongs to them.
He vowed to ensure that the NRM retains the Oyam North parliamentary seat and emphasized the mission of uniting towards transforming the lives of ordinary people under President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership.
“You have trusted me with your votes and I will not disappoint you. I will ensure that the NRM retains the Oyam north parliamentary seat,” he said.

Calls for Unity and Peaceful Elections
Rosemary Seninde, the Director for Mobilisation at the NRM Secretariat, urged party members to remain united and reject messages that sow division. Seninde emphasized the importance of peaceful elections and called on NRM members to actively participate in the vote-hunting mission during the campaign.

Notable party leaders present at the conference included Emmanuel Dombo, the Director of Communication, and Hajat Medina Naham, the Director of Finance and Administration.
