Gen Muhoozi, previously serving as his father’s senior presidential advisor overseeing special operations, steps into his new role amidst recent developments within the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

Official Declarations and Reshuffling

In a formal statement, Gen (rtd) Museveni, also the Commander in Chief, cites constitutional provisions and military statutes to outline the delegation of command responsibilities to Gen Mbadi and the subsequent transition to Gen Muhoozi.

In further adjustments, Gen Museveni appoints Lt Gen Samuel Okiding as the deputy CDF, replacing Gen Peter Elwelu, who now serves as one of the president’s senior advisors. Additionally, Maj Gen Jackson Bakasumba assumes the position of Joint Chief of Staff, succeeding Maj Gen Leopold Eric Kyanda, who transitions to the role of Defence Attaché. Brig Gen David Mugisha receives a promotion to Major General, stepping up from his previous position as commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC). Furthermore, Asaph Nyakyikuru, formerly the Commando Brigade commander, earns a promotion to Brigadier General.
