Progress Chukwuyem Wins Nigerian Idol Season 7 With a Victory Over Zadok

Nigerian Idol's seventh season finale at the weekend saw Progress Chukwuyem emerge as the competition's new winner.

In the seventh season of Nigerian Idol, Progress Chukwuyem emerged as the overall winner at the competition’s grand finale, held over the weekend.

KAMPALA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — At the weekend, Progress Chukwuyem emerged as the new winner of Nigerian Idol, after emerging victorious in the competition’s season seven grand finale held in Lagos.

  • Progress Chukwuyem hails from Ika South in Delta state, and is a singer-songwriter and music author. He succeeds Kingdom Kroseidem, who won last year’s edition.
  • The show is produced by MultiChoice Nigeria and offers potential local talent an opportunity to kick-start their careers.
  • The seventh season of Nigerian Idol was hosted by IK Osakioduwa, and featured musicians D’banj and Simi on the competition’s jury panel.

Chukwuyem Progress, the 21-year-old beat fellow contestant Zadok to win the ultimate prize package at the Nigerian Idol Season 7, worth 100 million nairas (about $240 800), which includes a cash prize, a new SUV, and funding for an EP and music video.

Zadok will also have an EP and music video produced by a top Nigerian producer.

Born and raised in Ika South in Delta state, Progress Chukwuyem is an acclaimed singer-songwriter and music author. He takes over from Kingdom Kroseidem, winner of last year’s edition.

“Reminiscing and all I can say is Lord, I am grateful,” Progress tweeted ahead of his big night. “Look how you’ve turned my life around. Again to my lovely fans who go all out for me, I am super grateful.”

IK Osakioduwa hosted season seven of Nigerian Idol, and names like D’banj and Simi served on the judging panel along with industry veteran Obi Asika.

Additionally, the show’s producers announced that this season’s competition saw a record-breaking 200 million votes cast, of which 40 million came in this past week alone.
