Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Spotify recently named Ugandan artist Nakiyingi Veronica Luggya, or Vinka, as the EQUAL Africa ambassador for October. EQUAL Africa is an initiative committed to reducing gender inequality within the music industry and spotlighting the voices of female artists across the continent.

Vinka joins an impressive lineup of artists including Makhadzi (South Africa), Maandy (Kenya), and Xenia Manasseh (Kenya) among others who have been featured in this program.

Vinka’s journey into music began with a childhood immersed in the tunes of artists like Awilo Longomba and Koffi Olomide. Starting as a dancer, she later transitioned into artist management. According to Vinka, falling in love with music during her time as an artist manager prompted her to pursue it when the opportunity arose.

Her music career took off when she made the switch from managing technical aspects to grabbing the mic. Vinka, known for her dynamic style that embraces dancehall and various African sounds, has created hits like ‘Malaika’ and ‘Thank God.’ Not being confined to a particular genre, she describes her music as catchy with a unique voice, tone, and vibe.
