King Charles III is set to officially be crowned King on Saturday, May 6th, at Westminster Abbey, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, last year. The coronation concert, where Tiwa Savage will be performing, and Big Lunch will take place the following day on Sunday, May 7th.
The concert, which will be held on the grounds of Windsor Castle, will feature a star-studded lineup of artists, including Paloma Faith, Steve Winwood, Olly Murs, and Nicole Scherzinger.
Tiwa Savage, who has been dubbed the “Queen of Afrobeats,” is set to perform alongside other world-class musicians in the historic event. This will be the first time Afrobeats will be performed at Windsor Castle.
A Unique Blend of African and Western Sounds
In a statement released by the event’s organizers, Tiwa Savage was selected as one of the few African artists to perform at the coronation concert. Her unique blend of African and Western sounds made her an exceptional artiste and a perfect fit for the event.
Tiwa Savage, who moved to London at the age of 11, began to build her music career in the UK. She signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2009, after completing her studies at Berklee College of Music and participating in the U.K. edition of The X Factor.
Fueled by the growth and opportunities in the Nigerian music industry, Savage relocated back to Nigeria in 2012 and signed with Mavin Records.
A Rhythmic and Soulful Fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, and Pop
Tiwa Savage’s signature sound is a rhythmic and soulful fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, and pop. Over the years, she has won numerous awards for her art, becoming one of Africa’s most recognized and prominent voices in the Afrobeats genre.
In a comment to BBC, Tiwa Savage expressed her excitement at being part of such an historic event. She noted that it was an honor to represent Africa and the Commonwealth and bring Afrobeats to Windsor Castle for the first time.
“It’s truly an honor to be representing Africa and the Commonwealth at such an historic event. I look forward to joining the celebrations and bringing Afrobeats to Windsor Castle for the first time!”
Other notable stars, including Tom Cruise, Dame Joan Collins, and Sir Tom Jones, will also appear via video message during the coronation concert.
