Dubai, UAE | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Ugandan dancehall singer Beenie Gunter, aka Crescent Baguma, faces detention in Abu Dhabi after being arrested in Dubai on Sunday. The Tubayo singer, in the UAE for weeks, got caught in a scuffle between Abu Dhabi event promoters on January 8, 2024.

Beenie Gunter Detained

Beenie Gunter, accompanying his son’s mother Nickie Berry, had performances in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Disagreements between promoters after the Dubai show turned physical, with Beenie trying to mediate and getting beaten.

Authorities took notice when property was damaged during the brawl. Arrested at a Dubai airport while returning to Uganda, Beenie Gunter remains in custody during ongoing investigations. The parties involved must compensate for damages.

Fans launch a social media campaign for his release, as Nickie Berry works to free him. Nickie clarifies he was arrested at the Dubai airport and required to cover damages from the show’s fights.
