Vipers SC forward Abubakar Lawal has died after a motorcycle accident on Entebbe Road on Monday.

The club confirmed his passing in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved player, Abubakar Lawal, who left us this morning.”

Lawal’s body has been taken to a medical facility for a postmortem. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

The 29-year-old Nigerian striker joined Vipers in 2022 after playing for AS Kigali. He played a key role in the club’s 2022/23 Uganda Premier League title win and had made eight league appearances this season.

Tributes have poured in from across the football community. SC Villa called him “a true hero of the game,” while URA FC described him as “a fierce competitor.”
