Masindi, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Journalist Joseph Baguma of Vision Group, associated with Bukedde and Urban TV, passed away on Christmas Eve in Masindi district. He collapsed at home in Kijura South Central division, Masindi municipality, and was pronounced dead at Mirembe Hospital around 11:30 pm.
UBC TV’s Ashraf Karungi, informed by the deceased’s wife, found Baguma unconscious in bed and attempted to rush him to the hospital. Despite efforts, Baguma was already deceased upon arrival.
The widow, Rose Abooki, reported that Baguma collapsed after returning from his shop in Kinjura trading center. Colleagues remembered him as disciplined, hardworking, and passionate about journalism. Emmanuel Okello of the Ugandan Radio Network expressed shock at Baguma’s sudden demise.
Ismail Bategeka, another journalist, praised Baguma for his developmental approach to journalism and noted his promising future. Survived by a wife and three children, Baguma, the son of esteemed farmer Kanaginagi Ateenyi, commenced his journalism career in 2009 at former radio Kitara, later joining Bunyoro Broadcasting Services (BBS FM), and finally, Vision Group in 2010.
At the time of his death, Baguma served as the treasurer for the Greater Masindi Media Practitioners Association (GMEPA). Burial arrangements were underway, with the body taken to his ancestral home in Bokwe Village, Labongo sub-county, Masindi district.
