In a whirlwind of drama, Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, widely known as Sarkodie, dropped a bombshell on his YouTube page, presenting his side of the story concerning a pregnancy he allegedly had with actress Yvonne Nelson back in 2010.

ACCRA, GHANA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — In a heated exchange of words, Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, known as Michael Owusu Addo, and actress Yvonne Nelson have taken their long-standing feud to social media.

Following Sarkodie’s release of his track “TRYM ME,” where he gives his account of the abortion of a pregnancy he had with Yvonne Nelson in 2010, the actress-turned-author wasted no time in responding via Twitter.

Yvonne Nelson Accuses Sarkodie of Disrespecting Women and Rubbishing Her Pain

Yvonne Nelson lashed out at Sarkodie, accusing him of attempting to use his craft to belittle the pain she felt as a young woman. In a series of tweets, she made her stance clear, emphasizing the need for respect towards women.

She wrote, “Insults won’t work, Michael. Respect womanhood. I’m happy the world gets to see how you are playing this and the real you. Young women get to learn from this. You would get the applause for a rap, still doesn’t change the TRUTH.”

The actress didn’t shy away from addressing the details of their past relationship, highlighting Sarkodie’s actions. She stated, “In my book, I narrated how you got me pregnant, how you couldn’t wait for me to get rid of it, how you DROVE me to have an abortion. As usual, you want to use rap to rubbish a pain a young woman felt. We both have daughters, let’s see what life throws at them.”

Yvonne Nelson Shares Her Side of the Story

Rapper Sarkodie Breaks Silence on Yvonne Nelson
Setting the Stage: Yvonne Nelson’s Explosive Claims

With a Twitter following of 1.8 million, Yvonne Nelson continued to provide her version of events to her fans. She disclosed that Sarkodie impregnated her but urged her to terminate the pregnancy due to his young age and unpreparedness for fatherhood.

In response to Sarkodie’s claim that she wanted to complete school, Yvonne Nelson countered, “Michael, you claim I was desperate to abort because I needed to complete school. In 2010, when I became pregnant, I had completed the university. Anybody can verify this. I wasn’t in school, and you know it. If you want to lie, find a logical lie.”

She also questioned Sarkodie’s integrity by mentioning his serious relationship with another woman who would later become his wife. Yvonne Nelson dismissed his street line, stating, “And would you have readily agreed for me to keep a pregnancy when you were in a serious relationship with another lady who would become your wife? Your street line is played out.”

Furthermore, Yvonne Nelson recounted the painful experience of being driven to the clinic for the abortion but left to deal with the associated pain alone by Sarkodie.

Sarkodie Responds with a New Track

Not one to stay silent, Sarkodie took to his official YouTube page to share his side of the story through a track titled “Try Me.” The song, featuring a blend of English and Twi, directly challenges Yvonne Nelson’s narrative about the pregnancy and its aftermath.

The chorus delivers an emotionally charged message: “If you don’t love me, leave me. Why are you pestering me? What is meant for me, you have gone to give to Kwame. I have become teary. If you don’t love me, leave me, let me be. Someone else is longing to be with me, when you were leaving me, you failed to notify me. Baby girl, don’t try me.”
