Press Conference and International Invitation
During a press conference held at Rozaho in Kololo, the organizers announced the upcoming marathon. Preceding the conference was a 3km run/walk in the charming suburbs of Kololo.
Event organizers extended a warm invitation to runners, athletes, and travel enthusiasts worldwide to participate in this iconic event, recently recognized as the “world’s most beautiful half-marathon” by USA Today.
The Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon caters to runners of all skill levels. Participants can choose from three options: the 42km full marathon, the 21km half-marathon, or the 5km fun run. Each category offers a unique opportunity for individuals to test their limits while marveling at the awe-inspiring Rwenzori Mountain ranges.
Experience the Breathtaking Beauty of the Kasese Region
Amos Wekesa from Equator Hikes, the marathon’s organizers, shared that this year’s route has been enhanced to offer runners an opportunity to immerse themselves in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Kasese region.
The brand new 42-kilometer route will showcase the Queen Elizabeth National Park, the Equator, two crater lakes, and the majestic Rwenzori Mountains. The half-marathon route will remain unchanged.
Options for Runners of All Skill Levels
The Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon caters to runners of varying abilities. Participants can choose from the 42km full marathon, the 21km half-marathon, or the 5km fun run. Each category presents a unique chance for individuals to push their limits while indulging in the breathtaking scenery of the Rwenzori Mountain ranges.
Promoting Sports Tourism and Community Development
The marathon’s overarching goals are to promote sports tourism, encourage healthy lifestyles, and contribute to the transformative growth of the local community.
Emmy Hashakimana, the Marketing and Innovations Director at Uganda Breweries Limited, expressed their pride in being the title sponsor of an event that aligns with their purpose. He emphasized that the Tusker Lite brand is for those who embody a spirit of limitless exploration and boundary-pushing, much like marathon runners.
Registration Details and Early Bird Rates
Registration for the marathon is now open, and early bird rates of Shs50,000 for East African Community residents and $50 for international runners are available until the end of June.
From July onwards, the rates will be Shs60,000 for East African Community residents and $60 for international runners. Interested participants can register through the marathon’s official website, www.mtrwenzori.com. Wekesa encouraged early registration, as entries will close on August 1 or when capacity is reached.
Preparation and Excitement Building Activities
Tusker Lite has planned a series of engaging activities and activations leading up to the main event in September. Collaborating with running clubs, gyms, and bars, the brand aims to bring together running enthusiasts for training sessions and create a buzz within the community.
These activities will also offer participants the opportunity to register for the marathon.
