Senegalese-American musician Akon released the EP “Afro Freak” on his Konvict Kulture label. It’s available on major digital platforms.
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Senegalese-American musician and entrepreneur Akon has dropped a new EP called “Afro Freak.” This eight-track collection, released under his Konvict Kulture label, is now available for streaming and download on major digital platforms.
The EP, following last year’s “TT Freak,” celebrates Akon’s Afrocentric influences, featuring Afrobeats and amapiano reimaginations on tracks like ‘Sleep,’ ‘Slow Motion,’ ‘Enjoy That,’ and ‘More Than That.’
Prior to the EP’s release, Akon collaborated with South Africa’s Mr. Brown on ‘Enjoy That.’ Akon described this collaboration as a unique musical creation.
Akon’s team expressed their admiration for his talent and dedication, highlighting his significant impact on the music industry through his distinct sound, captivating live performances, and genre-blending expertise.

Born Aliaune Akon Thiam, Akon is a five-time Grammy nominee known globally for his R&B, hip hop, EDM, and pop hits. He has sold over 35 million albums worldwide, with his latest two studio albums, “El Negreeto” and “Akonda,” released in 2019.
In an interview with Vibe Magazine last year, Akon expressed his excitement about the global impact of Afrobeats and urged artists from Africa to maximize the opportunities they’ve been given and treat them with respect.
He also emphasized the importance of artists and major labels in the United States appreciating the genre.
“It feels amazing. Especially after fighting for Afrobeat[s] to get its visualness in the US for so long and trying to kind of expose the local African artists to major labels here … I just hope that everybody respects the aspect of what that is and treats it fairly. And not only that, but the artists coming from Africa understand the appreciation that’s being held for this and not take it for granted. Like really maximise on the opportunity they’ve been given right now and really treat it like it’s meant to be treated.”, Akon said.
