Accra, Ghana | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Nollywood’s beloved funnyman, John Okafor, aka Mr Ibu, has passed away, as per NOW THEN DIGITAL news.
Reports from a family insider confirmed his demise on Saturday afternoon, following his recent transfer to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Evercare Hospital in Lekki. The 62-year-old actor succumbed to cardiac arrest, having suffered a relapse about a week earlier.
Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, also verified the sad news.
Just last year, Mr Ibu underwent surgery to amputate one of his legs, reaching out to fans for support and prayers during that challenging time.
Tributes have been pouring in from fans and fellow actors, celebrating his comedic genius. Mr Ibu carved a niche for himself with memorable roles in films like “Issakaba” and “A Fool at 40,” earning him numerous accolades.
His passing comes shortly after the loss of another industry talent, Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, fondly known as Sisi Quadri, who was laid to rest in his hometown of Iwo, Osun State, following his demise on Friday.
