Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Azawi, also known as Priscilla Zawedde, has released her second music album titled ‘Sankofa,’ following her debut album ‘African Music’ two years ago. ‘Sankofa,’ which reflects the act of looking back at the past to shape the future, features 16 tracks, with a bonus track, making it a total of 17 songs. The album was released on October 9th on various streaming platforms.
The majority of the album was produced by Bangar Boi, a student from the Swangz Academy, who worked on more than 10 of the 16 songs. Other talented producers involved in the project include Artin Pro, Groovy World, and Steve Keys.
Some standout tracks that have surprised and delighted Azawi’s fans include ‘Summer Bae,’ a collaboration with Jamaican Dancehall star Konshens, and ‘Njagala Vibe,’ featuring Kenya’s Sauti Sol.
In ‘Sankofa,’ Azawi collaborates with six male artists, including Konshens, Sauti Sol, Bensol, Elijah Kitaka, and Mike Kayihura. Notably, she chose not to work with any female artists in the industry. Azawi explained that she finds it easier to work with male artists because they can write their own music and are often more confident and open to new ideas.
The first video released from the album is ‘Omwenge,’ which provides a glimpse into local hangouts while staying true to the message conveyed in the lyrics. Directed by Marvin Musoke, the video sets the tone for the highly anticipated album, showcasing Azawi’s expected top-notch quality.
