Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Ugandan companies have made significant contributions to support the upcoming Busoga royal wedding, scheduled for November 18, 2023. The contributions, totaling Shs1.7 billion from corporations, are seen as a way to safeguard culture, values, and traditions.
Eng Patrick Batumya, the chairperson of the organizing committee, emphasized that a king’s wedding is a collective effort, not an individual endeavor. Several companies have generously donated to support this cultural event.
- Nation Media Group contributed Shs198 million.
- Next Media Services, another media company, donated Shs500 million.
- Nile Breweries Limited provided Shs450 million.
- The two leading telecom providers in Uganda, MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda, contributed Shs250 million and Shs265 million, respectively.
MTN Uganda’s CEO, Slyvia Mulinge, highlighted their commitment to making a positive impact in the communities where they operate. They view their collaboration with the Busoga kingdom as a source of pride and an opportunity to contribute to the region’s growth and prosperity.
Before the royal wedding, “Busiki celebrations” are planned in Budumbula, Iganga, and Mayuge on November 10, 11, and 17, respectively. These celebrations will include activities like bull roasting, surprise entertainment, and refreshments.
The main event, where Kyabazinga Wiliam Gabula Nadiope IV and Ms. Jovia Mutesi are set to exchange vows, will take place on November 18 at Jinja’s Bugembe Christ Cathedral.
