Kapchorwa, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Tragedy struck on Boxing Day in Towei village near Sipi, Kapchorwa District, eastern Uganda. Five lives were lost in a fatal road crash at a notorious blackspot, leaving the community in mourning.
Among the victims were Goreti Najja, 35, Isabela Isabit, 8, Mark Okay, 10, Ivan Busulwa, 10, and Solomon Kibirige, 9. The unfortunate incident occurred around 4:30 pm when the Toyota Prado Land Cruiser they were traveling in lost control due to brake failure. The vehicle rolled downhill, sealing the fate of those on board.
The aftermath was grim, with the bodies of the deceased transported to Kapchorwa Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. The community now grapples with the harsh reality of their sudden departure.
Police, through SP Kananura Michael, the Community Liaison Officer for the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety & PRO, identified the survivors as Ivy Busulwa, 7, Ivan Busilwa, 14, Caleb Kagimu, 3, and Innocent Busuulwa, 18. These individuals, though fortunate to survive, are currently receiving medical care in the wake of the traumatic incident.
As the investigation unfolds, the details surrounding the tragic crash serve as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of life on the road. In the face of such heart-wrenching events, the community stands united, grappling with grief and providing support to those affected by this unforeseen and devastating loss.
