Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Stanbic Bank Uganda has appointed Ronald Makata as its new Chief Finance and Value Management Officer, succeeding Abraham Ongenge. Ongenge has transitioned to Stanbic Bank Kenya, where he now serves as the Executive Head for Personal and Private Banking.
Ronald Makata has been with Stanbic Bank since 2013, initially joining as the Manager of Financial Reporting. Over the years, he has held various senior roles, including financial controller, head of banking under client solutions, and, most recently, head of treasury and capital management.
Makata is recognized for his leadership in transformative initiatives within the bank, such as implementing robust financial controls across Africa, driving business transformation projects, simplifying client processes, and spearheading digitization projects.
Stanbic Bank Chief Executive Anne Juuko expressed her confidence in Makata’s appointment, emphasizing his experience and commitment to mentoring young professionals. Juuko highlighted Makata’s role in uplifting and supporting the career development of young talents within the bank.
In his acceptance speech, Makata expressed his gratitude to the bank’s management for entrusting him with the new responsibilities. He looks forward to collaborating with a team of talented young professionals to enhance operational efficiency, improve the client experience, and create more value for shareholders.
With over 17 years of experience in the financial services sector, Makata began his career at Barclays Uganda and rose through the ranks to become the Manager of Financial Reporting. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Edinburgh Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Makerere University. Makata is a certified coach, a professional accountant, a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), and a member of the Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (CPA).
