Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems picked up the award for ‘Best New Artist’ during the 2022 Soul Train Awards, which took place in Las Vegas, US, on Saturday (November 26, 2022).
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Tems, a Nigerian singer-songwriter, won the ‘Best New Artist’ award at the 2022 Soul Train Awards, which took place in Las Vegas, US, on Saturday (November 26, 2022).
- In winning the category, Tems became Africa’s first nominee to win. She beat out other African nominees such as CKay and Fireboy DML, as well as US artists Steve Lacy, Coco Jones, Dixson, and Muni Long.
- ‘Essence’ by Wizkid, featuring Tems, won the 2021 Soul Train Awards’ best collaboration award, and just last week, they won the American Music Awards‘ best R&B song award.
- In addition, Tems won the Favourite Hip Hop Song award at the 2022 American Music Awards for her performance on Future’s ‘WAIT FOR U’.
- At the 2022 Soul Train Awards in Las Vegas, Beyoncé captured the night’s top honors by winning the awards for Best Album, Song of the Year, and Best Collaboration on the global scale.
The Nigerian artist Tems made history at the 2022 Soul Train Awards, becoming the first African artist to win the ‘Best New Artist’ award. Other Nigerian artists nominated in the same category included CKay and Fireboy DML.
‘Essence’, Wizkid’s global hit featuring Tems, won the 2021 Soul Train award for best collaboration. Just last week, it won the Best R&B award at the 2022 American Music Awards.
The 2022 American Music Awards ceremony also recognized Tems’ vocal work on Future’s ‘WAIT FOR U’ song, which won Favourite Hip Hop Song.
Across the globe, Beyoncé was the big winner of the 2022 Soul Train Awards, with the artist taking home the trophies for Best Album, Song of the Year and Best Collaboration for the night.
The 2022 Soul Train Awards were taped in Las Vegas on November 13, however, the winners weren’t revealed until the show aired.
