Her captivating performance in the 17th episode, which aired on Sunday (18th June 2023), featured a thrilling duet battle against Rinah Arifenitra from Madagascar.
Advancing with a Memorable Performance
Desire Tusiimire secured her place in the knockout phase by delivering a standout performance and defeating Rinah Arifenitra in their duet rendition of “You are Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera.
Coach Awilo recognized Tusiimire’s talent and chose to save her.
Competitive Lineup in Last Week’s Episode
In the previous episode, Coach Awilo Logombas’s team showcased three talented singers from Uganda alongside participants from Madagascar, Nigeria, Rwanda, Niger, Malawi, and Gabon. These artists fiercely competed for a chance to proceed to the next stage of the vocal contest.
Coach Awilo’s Selections and Notable Battles
Coach Awilo, a highly respected Congolese Soukous musician, formed seven duets and assigned a song for each pair to battle for advancement to the knockout phase. Some of the notable battles included:
- Capricia Koumba from Congo Brazzaville versus Fanoela Manantsoa from Madagascar, who sang “I Want it That Way” by Backstreet Boys. Coach Awilo selected Manantsoa to move forward.
- Rwanda’s Belinda Uwase, who performed Rihanna’s hit song “We Found Love,” won against Kesia Ruth from Malawi.
- Kitary Coulibaly from Niger and Dapo Zaccheus from Nigeria delivered an impressive “boy-band” performance. Awilo saved Kitary to advance.
- Cilia Jules from Congo Brazzaville emerged victorious against Bessitbaye Togasra after their rendition of “Belia” by Gims.
Ugandan Contestants’ Outcomes
Unfortunately, Charles Ssekitoleko from Uganda lost to Esther Chitheka from Malawi after performing “Flash Light” by Jessie J, while Ronny Ssemujju from Uganda was defeated by Solene Ada from Gabon in their “Panic! At the Disco” performance.
No Saves in Last Week’s Episode
In contrast to episode 16, where Coach Yemi Alade saved Rwanda’s Linda Montez from elimination after being dropped by Coach Locko, no saves were made by the coaches in the latest episode. As a result, seven talented contestants were eliminated from the competition. Coaches have the option to save a contestant if they are dropped by their original coach.
Upcoming Battles and the Road Ahead
In the next episode, Sharon Kyolinakyo from Uganda will face off against her fellow teammates on Coach Lady Jaydee’s team. These duet battles will be the last before contestants progress to the knockout and live shows, where their fate will be determined by the audience.
