Rema, the Nigerian singer, has surpassed Afrobeats star Wizkid’s record on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart. 

NAIROBI, KENYA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Nigerian sensation Rema has surpassed Afrobeats star Wizkid’s achievement on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.

The remix of his hit track ‘Calm Down’ has held the top spot for an impressive 18 weeks, breaking Wizkid and Tems’ record with their song ‘Essence’, which held the position for 17 weeks in 2020.

Rema’s remix of his hit single ‘Calm Down’ has secured the top spot for an impressive 18 weeks, surpassing Wizkid and Tems’ ‘Essence’ which held the position for 17 weeks in 2020.

Global Acclaim for ‘Calm Down’ Remix Featuring Selena Gomez

Rema’s remix of ‘Calm Down’, featuring American singer Selena Gomez, took the world by storm when it was released in August 2022. The track garnered massive acclaim and has since accumulated over 487 million views on YouTube, solidifying its popularity.

Origins of ‘Calm Down’ and Record-breaking Views

The original version of ‘Calm Down’ was featured on Rema’s debut album, Rave & Roses, released in March 2022. Co-produced by Andre Vibez and Michael ‘London’ Hunter, the song currently holds the distinction of being the most-viewed Afrobeats video with an impressive 477 million views.

Deluxe Album Release and Success of ‘Calm Down’ Remix

In April of this year, Rema unveiled a deluxe version of his album titled Rave & Roses Ultra. The 22-track update includes six additional tracks, notably the remix of ‘Calm Down’.

The album’s continued success has contributed to Rema’s rise to prominence in the music industry.

Achievements Beyond Billboard: Topping the MENA Music Streaming Chart

On November 29, 2022, ‘Calm Down’ achieved another historic milestone by becoming the first song to top the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) music streaming chart.

The launch of the ranking list by IFPI marked a significant accomplishment for Rema’s captivating track.
