Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Former State Minister for Primary Education, Joyce Mpanga, who passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, will receive an official burial on Thursday this week, as announced by the government. The President granted this official recognition, with details to be provided by the National Organising Committee (N.O.C) and the family. Minister for Presidency, Ms Milly Babalanda, shared the news via Twitter on Sunday.

Joyce Mpanga’s impactful contributions to women’s emancipation and her support for the Kingdom of Buganda and Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II are highlighted in her remembrance. The official burial program, outlined by the Buganda Kingdom, commenced with a service and vigil at her residence in Lungujja, Rubaga Division-Kampala on Sunday. Additional services are scheduled at St Stephen’s Church, Lungujja on Monday and at the deceased’s residence on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the body will be transported to St Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, for the main funeral service at 2 pm. The final resting place for Ms. Mpanga is Maya, Wakiso District, where the burial is set for Thursday at 2 pm.
