Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — The Capital Markets Authority of Uganda has appointed Josephine Okui Ossiya as its new chief executive, succeeding Keith Kalyegira. Ms. Ossiya, who currently serves as the chief financial officer of Bujagali Energy Limited and is a board member of the Bank of Uganda, is the first woman to hold this position. The announcement was made via X (formerly Twitter), and the CMA congratulated Ms. Ossiya on her appointment.

Keith Kalyegira, the outgoing CEO who has been in the role since December 2013, oversaw a significant digital transformation at CMA during his tenure, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to streamline processes and enhance service delivery.

Ms. Ossiya brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served as the chief financial officer at Bujagali Energy Limited since November 2014 and on the board of the central bank since February 2018. She was also elected as the first female president of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda in June.

Her professional background includes roles as the chief financial officer and head of finance at ATC Ghana, finance director at Eskom Uganda, and financial controller at Standard Chartered Bank Uganda. She has also worked in various financial capacities at Shell Uganda (now Vivo Energy), British American Tobacco Uganda, the National Social Security Fund, and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

Ms. Ossiya holds an MBA from the University of Liverpool and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Makerere University. She is a member of the internal auditors’ institutes of Uganda and the US, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda, and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
