Madaraka Festival 2023, a cultural festival launched in 2014 by One Vibe Media, will feature performances by Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo, as well as Kenyan acts Sauti Sol and King Kaka.

In addition to the East African acts, diaspora artists such as Draze, DJ Blaq, and Simon Okelo will also be part of the line-up. The festival will visit New York, Atlanta, Dallas, and Seattle, with the final performance on 26 May.

Deepening African and African American Communities’ Relationships through Madaraka Festival

Established in 2014 by One Vibe Media, the Madaraka Festival aims to foster partnerships between African and African American communities and build cultural dynamics by shifting narratives.

The festival line-up is curated to empower cultural diversity and inclusion across the African diaspora in Seattle and the US.

The 2022 edition of the festival, which took place in Seattle, was attended by over 10,000 people and had more than 18 million digital viewers. The event was headlined by Nigerian Afrobeats star D’Banj and was sponsored by several organisations such as Amazon, Microsoft, Alaska Airlines, and KEXP.

Proceeds from the festival will go to support various community-led initiatives and changes, including One Vibe Africa, Mama Hope, and the Refugee Artisan Initiative. One Vibe Media has announced that the festival raised seed capital for 106 women running small-scale businesses in three Kenyan slums in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
