Kampala, Uganda | NOW THEN DIGITAL — Peter Anthony Morgan, the lead singer of Morgan Heritage, a popular reggae band he co-founded with his siblings, passed away at the age of 46, according to his family.
Known affectionately as Peetah, he was in Uganda last year with the Grammy award-winning band to promote their album, “The Homeland,” which was well-received by fans.
Morgan Heritage had previously performed in Uganda in 2017, thanks to the efforts of reggae star Tshaka Mayanja, now known as Jazz Safari, who is often mistaken for Peetah due to their resemblance.
Their visits to Uganda strengthened their connection with fans, who particularly appreciated the collaboration with local artists Jose Chameleone and Eddy Kenzo on “The Homeland” album, which emphasizes unity and forgiveness.

The album’s lead track, “Bambulele,” urges Africans to stand together to protect their homeland from exploitation and injustice.
Morgan Heritage expressed their admiration for Uganda’s natural beauty and its people, explaining their decision to include Ugandan artists on their album.
Formed in the early 1990s, Morgan Heritage released their debut album, “Miracle,” in 1994, marking the beginning of their successful career in reggae music.
Following Peetah’s passing, tributes poured in from fans and public figures, including Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who described it as a significant loss for Jamaica and the reggae music community.
Peetah, born into a family deeply rooted in reggae music, along with his siblings, continued their father’s legacy by forming Morgan Heritage, showcasing their storytelling abilities through their music.
Their unique sound, described as a fusion of various musical genres, earned them critical acclaim and success, notably with their Grammy-winning album, “Strictly Roots,” in 2015.
While the cause of Peetah’s death was not disclosed, his family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
