Movie Room will be launched on DStv Channel 113 by Ngwato Nkosi Group, which also owns the disruptive and successful news channel Newzroom Afrika (DStv Channel 405).
KAMPALA | NOW THEN DIGITAL — The leading entertainment provider in Africa, MultiChoice is launching a new movie channel called ‘Movie Room’ on its DStv service later this month.
- On DStv Channel 113, Movie Room will be launching from the same company that founded the disruptive and successful news channel Newzroom Afrika (DStv Channel 405 in South Africa).
- The Movie Room will launch on 27 August and is available to all DStv subscribers, as well as to GOtv subscribers on Supa, Max, and Plus.
- Joan Semanda, Head of Public Relations and Communications at MultiChoice Uganda, said Movie Room would give viewers a wider selection of entertainment options.

Movie Room is the latest local movie channel from the same group that controls the Newzroom Afrika channel on DStv. It won’t be limited to a single genre, which means there will be something for every movie lover.
The channel, which will be packaged by the Ngwato Nkosi Group, which supplies the 24-hour news channel Newzroom Afrika, will showcase local and international films around the clock.
“From big blockbuster hits to unforgettable cinema classics, this channel will offer entertaining local and international movies 24/7,” says Thokozani Nkosi about Movie Room.
“We’ll be carefully curating the line-up to cater for every mood such as edge-of-your-seat action or the comfort of an old favourite. Of course, we’ll also apply the unique perspective that we’ve become known for,” further explains Thokozani Nkosi.
The new channel will be launched on DStv Channel 113 on the 27th of August and will feature a mix of local and international movies. And this will include both recent hits and classic cinema.
“This is an exciting next step in our journey. Newzroom Afrika has been successful beyond all expectations, and we will use the experience of setting up the channel from scratch to make smart decisions in our approach to Movie Room,” adds Thabile Ngwato on the upcoming launch.
“Our team is entrepreneurial by nature and we have a core group of seasoned and creative talent that sets us apart.”
This announcement is especially encouraging as MultiChoice cancelled four channels from e.tv several months ago and had promised an exciting new movie channel soon.
With the launch of ‘Movie Room’ on DStv Channel 113, the network hopes to capture the hearts of local viewers by allowing South Africans to watch their favourite movies on the go.
“We’re excited to bring subscribers the widest possible choice of fine movies to satisfy all tastes and seasons,” explains Georginah Machiridza, Executive Head of Content Strategy & Third Party Channels at MultiChoice.
In a statement, MultiChoice Uganda’s Head of PR and Communications, Joan Semanda, stated that Movie Room would provide viewers with even more options when choosing entertainment.
“We’re excited to bring our customers the widest possible choice of fine movies to satisfy all tastes and seasons. We are positive that Movie Room will be one of the go-to channels offering even more variety for our movie loving audiences,” said Joan.
DStv subscribers will have access to Movie Room on all packages starting 27 August, and GOtv subscribers will have access to it on Supa, Max, and Plus packages.
